Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: being hit or struck by 800 pound logs in the log ladder bin: (a)On the upper level of the sawmill, at the log ladder bin, employees are required to enter the log ladder bin when the logs become jammed or crisscrossed exposing them to being struck by the logs. Feasible and acceptable methods of abatement are as follows: 1. Install an overhead hoist with grappling hook and operator hand controls to manipulate crisscrossed logs into proper position at the log ladder bin. 2. Install a movable catwalk over the bin where employee could manipulate the logs from a safe distance.e
