General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a)Repair Shop: The locking devices and lift control mechanisms for at least five of the automotive lifts were defective in that the locking devices were missing and the lift control mechanisms would not return to the neutral or "off" position when released, subjecting employees to hazards of being struck by a car on a lift or crushed under a car. Feasible and acceptable abatement methods include: 1) Repairing or replacing the locking devices such that they will automatically hold the lift in position. 2) Replace the springs for the lift control mechanisms so that the lift control mechanisms will automatically return to the neutral or "off" position when they released.
