Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to being struck by or striking a stationary object
or another vehicle:
(a) On the gold course and roadways;  Employees use golf cars to access
other parts of the
property and carry supplies.  The golf cars do not have brakes that are
able to stop the car
and backup warning devices on the cars are not operations which expose
employees to
crushing injuries resulting from not being able to stop the vehicle in
emergency situations, on
or about 7/14/97.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard
is to have the brakes and backup warning devices repaired and establish a
preventative
maintenance schedule and program.
