Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to asphyxiation from the bi- products of combustion being vented into the shop atmosphere. a) Shop: the space heater being used by the employees to heat the shop, was not vented to a safe area. The heater did not have a vent pipe on it, to prevent the bi-products of combustion from being emitted into the shop atmosphere. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to install a vent pipe onto the heater and vent the products of combustion to the exterior of the building.
