Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling injuries from the elevated forks of an electric forklift: a) Pine Grove Woolens, Inc., employees were levated in a cardboard box on industrial truck forks and the platform was not secured to the forks or an upright, September 24, 1992. b) Pine Grove Woolens, Inc., employees were elevated in a cardboard box on industrial truck forks without full platform perimeter guarding or personal fall restraints, September 24, 1992. c) Pine Grove Woolens, Inc., employees were elevated in a cardboard box on industrial truck forks without a guard to protect the employees from contact with one fork lift truck mast mechanism, September 24, 1992. AMONG OTHER METHODS, SOME FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHODS TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD ARE: (1) to provide a personnel platform with chains or clamps to secure the personnel platform to the industrial truck lifting carriage or forks (instance a). (2) to provide a personnel platform with guardrails and midrails or a body belt with lanyard or deceleration device to be worn by the person on the platform (instance b). (3) to provide a personnel platform fitted with a guard to protect personnel in the normal working position on the platform from moving parts on the truck (instance c).
