Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of
1970:  The employer did not furnish employment and a place of
employment which were free from recognized hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees were exposed to a recognized hazard
of electrical shock and burns:
(a)  M/V Lafayette:  Employees who had occasion to walk or
work in the engine room and storeroom aft of the engine
room were exposed to unguarded electric florescent
light bulbs and conductors.  This condition exposed
employees to possible broken bulbs, live conductors,
and electrical shock and burns.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method
of abatement would be to install covers over the
electrical conductors and place a guard over the bulbs.
