Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a recognized hazard of cuts and/or lacerations: (a)M/V New Star: Employees in the engine room worked near four sets of unguarded fluorescent light bulbs ranging from 64 inches to 72 inches off the floor. Employees could accidently break the light bulbs, exposing them to the hazard of being cut by broken glass. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement to correct this hazard would be to install guards on the light fixtures.
