Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to a recognized hazard of electrical shock or burns:
(a)F/T Highland Light:  Employees working in the maintenance shop had
occasion
to use or be near a Jet drill press (serial number 090040) with a flexible
electric
light bulb attachment.  The light socket was broken, exposing live 110 volt
electrical wires.  This condition exposed employees to possible electrical
shock
or burns.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
this hazard is to disconnect the light bulb attachment.
(b)F/T Highland Light:  Employees had occasion to work near a General
Electric
circuit breaker panel box (EM-010347) with exposed bus bars.  This
condition
exposed employees to possible electrical shock or burns in the event of
accidental
contact while flipping switches at the panel box.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
this hazard would be to replace the circuit breaker.
(c)F/T Highland Light:  Employees had occasion to work near an AB493 series
electrical panelboard located in the forward end of the processing deck.
The
panelboard was not dead fronted, exposing employees to possible electrical
shock
or burns in the event of accidental contact with bare electrical
conductors.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
this hazard would be to replace the missing dead front.
(d)F/T Highland Light:  Employees working on the processing deck had
occasion
to use or be near the starboard hatch door with an electrical extension
cord
running through it to a 110-volt trouble light.  This condition exposed
employees
to possible electrical shock or burns in the event the hatch door is
closed on the
extension cord and the insulation is abraded.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
this hazard is to remove the extension cord from the doorway.
(e)F/T Highland Light:  Employees had occasion to work near an AB493 series
electrical panelboard located in the control lab.  The panelboard was not
dead
fronted, exposing employees to possible electrical shock or burns in the
event of
accidental contact with bare electrical conductors.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
his hazard would be to replace the missing dead front.
(f)F/T Highland Light:  Employees working on the process deck had occasion
to
work near an extension cord run from the hospital office through two hatch
doors, wrapped around steel piping, and ultimately to a string of overhead
lights
on the processing deck.  This condition exposed employees to possible
electrical
shock or burns in the event the hatch door(s) are closed on the extension
cord and
the insulation is abraded.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
this hazard is to hard wire an electrical outlet near the processing deck.
(g)F/T Highland Light:  Employees working in the electrical distribution
room had
occasion to work near a 110 volt distribution panel that was not dead
fronted to
cover two openings.  The upper opening measured 2-1/2 inches by 12 inches
and
the lower opening was 30 inches by 36 inches.  Employees were exposed to
possible electrical shock or burns in the event of accidental contact with
bare
electrical conductors.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
this hazard would be to replace the missing dead front.
(h)F/T Highland Light:  Employees working on the processing deck had
occasion
to work near energized 100 volt electrical wires.  The electrical wires
were
adjacent to a walkway and approximately 12 inches off the floor.  This
condition
exposed employees to possible electrical shock or burns in the event of
accidental
contact with bare electrical conductors.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
this hazard would be to de-energize the electrical circuit.
(i)F/T Highland Light:  Employees working in the galley had occasion to
work near
extension cords run from the galley through the freight elevator door to a
power
drill and radio.  This condition exposed employees to possible electrical
shock or
burns in the event the elevator door is closed on the extension cords and
the
insulation is abraded.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
this hazard would be to remove the extension cords when work in not in
progress.
