Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a recognized hazard of electrical shock and burns: (a)M/V All Alaskan: Employees working in the compressor room had occasion to work or walk near three electric SCR control panel boxes that had the access door propped and taped open, exposing bare live electrical conductors. This condition exposed employees to personal injury in the event that inadvertent contact was made and the employer became a source to ground. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to correct the reason the doors were propped open, i.e., provide ventilation for cooling and close doors.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a recognized hazard of electrical shock and burns: (a)M/V All Alaskan: Employees working in the compressor room and the panel box room had occasion to work or walk near electrical panel boxes that had breaker knockouts missing or complete covers removed exposing live electrical conductors to employee contact. (1)Compressor room panel cover and door removed on Panel CR #8. (2)Panel box room square D, panel PC, missing breaker and breaker opening cover. (3)Panel box room panel box, square D, identified as drill fans, welders and water heater breakers missing, protective cover. This condition exposed employees to personal injury in the event that inadvertent contact was made and the employee became a source to ground. Among other methods, one acceptable and feasible method of abatement would be to replace provided covers over electrical contacts.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a recognized hazard of electrical shock and burns: (a)M/V All Alaskan: Employees working or walking in the area of the compressor room had occasion to be near an extension cord that was strung along the walkway to an electrical fan, through an open doorway. This condition exposed employees to personal injury in the event that the door should be shut, the cord insulation damaged, and the employee came into contact with bare live conductors. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to install outlets near the fan and remove the need for an extension cord.
