General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) The potential hazard of lacerations to exposed body tissues in the event that the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) schedule 40 plastic pipe ruptures or explodes due to the fact that the plastic pipe located above ground carried compressed air at one hundred (100) pounds per square inch (psi), and the pipe was run out in the open work area of the shop. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to replace the PVC schedule 40 plastic pipe with a proper compressed air piping system per ANSI/ASME B31.8-1986.
