Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: (a)Employees who work in the shop manufacturing sheet metal products are exposed to the hazard of fire and/or explosion due to the improper dust collection of aluminum dust created by sanding aluminum parts in the Timesavers metalworking machines. "AMONG OTHER METHODS, FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHODS TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD INCLUDE .. 1. provide ventilation and a dust collection system which is in compliance with NFPA recommendations, 2. follow the manufacturer's recommended practices for this machine, 3. install a fire/explosion suppression system.
