Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were permitted to operate wire drawing machine with unguarded foot pedal exposing them to rotating parts. A FEASIBLE AND USEFUL METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD AMONG OTHER METHODS IS TO INSTALL A COVER OVER PEDAL TO PREVENT OPERATOR FROM FALLING OR MOVING OBJECTS OR FROM UNITENDED OPERATION BY ACCIDENTAL STEPPING ONTO FOOT CONTROL. a) Forbes Steel & Wire Corp., Wire Drawing Department, Morgan Number 1 Wire Drawing Machine - Foot pedals to operate machine were not provided with guards; 10-17-90.
