Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to performing catapulting without following the guidelines established by the bungee jumping industry. One feasible and accept- able abatement method to correct this hazard is to establish and follow guidelines for catapulting which would at least include an acceptable anchor and release system which incorporates the use of a dynamometer and a spiniker shackle; the development and use of engineering tables showing the amount of tension to be applied through the dynamometer at the time of release; and a system to determine the trajectory of travel once the release is made. Jump Site - Employees were exposed to injuries while performing catapulting without following industry procedures for catapulting operations.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to performing catapulting, using bungee cords which were not approved for this purpose. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to use only bungee cords which have been designed, manufactured, tested, and approved by the manufacturer for catapult jumps. Jump Site - The employer performed catapult jumps using bungee cords which were not approved for this purpose.
