Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential wire rope failure: MODIFIED BITUMEN LINE, POLYETHYLENE HOIST: THE WIRE ROPE PROVIDED ON DAYTON HOIST WAS WORN EXCESSIVELY, EXCEEDING THE RECOMMENDED GUIDELINES PROVIDED FOR WIRE ROPE REPLACEMENT. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND USEFUL METHOD TO REDUCE/ELIMINATE THE HAZARD WOULD BE TO PERFORM DETAILED INSPECTIONS OF HOIST EQUIPMENT AS OFTEN AS IS NEEDED TO IDENTIFY WORN OR BROKEN EQUIPMENT. REPAIR AND/OR REPLACE COMPONENTS AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE.
