Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to a fall hazard from a manually propelled elevating
platform:
a.SALT CITY CENTER, MAIN THEATER AREA:  On or about September 24,
1993, employees were exposed to a fall hazard while using a Genie
Personnel
Lift, model #PLC24, Serial #148815244B which did not have an operational
control system which allowed the operator to control the lift.  Lift was
not
removed from service as required by American National Standards Institute
(ANSI) A92.31980 for manually propelled elevating platforms;  Section
13.3.3
Inspection and Maintenance.
One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct
this
hazard are:
1)Inspect and maintain the work platform as required by the manufacturer's
operating/maintenance manual.
2)Work platform not in safe operating condition should be removed from
service until repaired.
3)Repairs should be made by a qualified person in conformance with
manufacturer's operating/maintenance manual.
