Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being caught in or struck by moving conveyor belts and or materials. a)HRB-2 conveyor, North side: An emergency stopping device was found to be inoperative. On or about April 15, 1996. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among others, one feasible and acceptable method to eliminate or to materially reduce this hazard is to ensure that emergency stop devices are in working order. Reference ANSI/ASME B20.1-1990, 5.9.1. b)HRB-2 conveyor, South side: An emergency pull cord was missing from an emergency stopping device. On or about April 15, 1996. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among others, one feasible and acceptable method to eliminate or to materially reduce this hazard is to ensure that emergency stop devices are in safe repair. Reference ANSI/ASME B20.1-1990, 5.9.1.
