Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of falling from a suspended scaffold: a) Route 21, Ramp #1603-154: An employee was not wearing fall protection while painting bridge steel from a suspended scaffold, on or about 6/11/93. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement to correct this hazard is to have each worker wear a fall protection device secured to a secure horizontal wire rope or structural member other than the scaffold, as stipulated by the American National Standards Institute, ANSI A10.8-1988, Scaffolding - Safety Requirements.
