Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause deaths of serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) On or about December 4, 1990, employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling trusses at a building located at 4496 Corporate Square, Naples, FL 33442, that adequate and continuous lateral bracing and proper diagonal bracing was not used to prevent toppling and dominoing during erection. Bracing through chords laterally and cross bracing was not provided to ensure that trusses were secure in a straight and plumb position. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to ensure that the Truss Plate Institute, BWT-76, Bracing Wood Trusses Commentary and Recommendations are carried out according to procedures as the job progresses.
