General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Crushing injuries and death while working under a two column auto lift, Weaver Mfg. Co. S/N 3A144442, without a safety locking device when in the raised position. A filure in the hydraulic system would cause the lift to lower and cause a crushing injury to the exposed employee. One feasible and useful method to correct the hazard would be to use a portable adjustable steel jack stand placed under each axle of the vehicle in the elevated position.
