Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards (3) Hoist braking system for proper operations (4) Hooks in accordance with ASME B30.10, Frequent Inspection (b) Perform periodic inspections at quarterly to yearly intervals as per ASME B30.16-1993 Paragraph 16-2.1.3(d), which includes the requirements specified in paragraph 16-2.1.2(c) plus: (1) Load blocks, suspension housing, chain attachments, suspension bolts, gears, pins, rollers, and locking and clamping devices for evidence of wear, corrosion, crack and distortion (2) The motor brake and load brake for evidence of wear (3) Electric apparatus for evidence of pitting or deterioration of controller contacts (4) Supporting structure or trolley, if used, for evidence of damage (5) Label or labels required by paragraph 16-1.1.4 for legibility (6) End connection of load chains for evidence of wear, corrosion, cracks, damage, and distortion (7) Function labels on pendant control stations for legibility (8) The hoist and hoist mounting for evidence of missing items (c) Written, dated and signed inspection reports and records should be made yearly on critical items such as hooks, chains and supporting structure. Dated inspection reports and records shall be maintained at time intervals per ASME B30.16-1993, Paragraph 16- 2.1.1(b)(2). Records should readily available.
