Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which
were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were
exposed to:
(a)  On or about November 1, 1993, and at times prior to that
date, employees working in and around the Maple Manor Nursing
Home were exposed to the potential for serious injury from being
struck by rafters collapsing and falling into the building.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods
to correct this hazard are to:
1)  Ensure that the rafters are properly placed, tied together,
and braced to prevent rafter swaying and collapse caused by wind
or other factors.
2)  Ensure that the area below (where the rafters are being
installed) is kept clear of all employees until such time as
all rafters are installed and secured properly.
