Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a.At the Crucible Cleaning Station, a cleaning rod was used on the powered industrial truck without the manufacturer's written approval, thereby exposing employees to a struck-by hazard. Feasible methods of abatement to correct the hazards associated with this cleaning rod attachment may include, but not limited to, the following: 1.Obtain written approval from the manufacturer of the forklift for the use of the cleaning rod attachment or, 2.Purchase from the manufacturer of the forklift an approved cleaning rod attachment and, 3.Train the employees in the safe use of the forklift and claning rod attachment.
