Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of moving elevator components: Prospect-Verona Bridge - On or about December 18, 2006, an employee was struck by an elevator counterweight while constructing the Prospect pylon elevator shaft wall. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to shutdown, isolate, and lockout the elevator or follow American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z244.1 Control of Hazardous Energy, Lockout/Tagout and Alternative Methods.ive
