Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards from automobile lifts that contained excessive wear of lift structural components, hydraulic leaks, sudden or erratic operation and improper operation of locking devices: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct these hazards is: (a) Removal of affected lifts from service until repaired in accordance with standards referenced in American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Standard B153.1, 1990 and Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) Standard ALI-ALOIM, 1994; and (b) Development of a periodic inspection program and maintenance program along with operator training in recognition of the above hazards in accordance with standards referenced in American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Standard B153.1, 1990 and Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) Standard ALI-ALOIM, 1994. SHOP AREA: BAY 3 AND BAY 4 AUTOMOTIVE LIFTS.
