Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment
and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed
to crushing from the defective
automobile garage lifts:
(a)Garage Area - The Weaver AFH 2 Poster lift, serial number 500-032, had
the safety locking
mechanism on the right side of the lift made inoperative and the left side
locking mechanism
was not functioning properly in that the employee had to reach into the
lift while it was
descending to hold the locking mechanism out so that the lift would lower,
on or about July
12, 2005.
(b)Garage Area - The Eagle Lift, model number TPF-9, serial number GX -
046-7, had the
safety cables for the locking mechanism on both sides severely frayed and
in danger of
breaking, on or about July 12, 2005.
(c)Garage Area - The Fenner-Stone Incorporated vehicle lift, serial number
01159, had the
hydraulic piston rods from the hydraulic cylinders pushing into the metal
roof as the lift was
raised. The one piston on the passenger side of the car was bent due to
the constant impacts,
on or about July 12,2005.
"AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD
TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO REPAIR THE LOCKING MECHANISMS,  THE SAFETY
CABLES, AND TO OPEN THE AREA ABOVE THE FENNER - STONE LIFT SO THAT THE
CYLINDER PISTONS DO NOT STRIKE THE ROOF AND REPAIR THE BENT PISTON"
