Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the possibility of truss collapse: (a) The Platz Job, Fairview, PA; three separate recommendations of the Truss Plate Institute HIB-91 Summary Sheet were not followed where erecting roof trusses: 1)There was no bottom lateral and/or diagnol bracing. 2)There was no diagnol bracing in conjunction with the top lateral bracing. 3)The top lateral bracing was not lapped at least the distance of two trusses. Among other methods, one feasible method to correct the hazards is to follow the Truss Plate Institute HIB-91 Summary Sheet or whatever information on truss erection is sent by the manufacturer of the trusses when they arrive at the jobsite.
