Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment
and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed
to the possibility of truss
collapse:
(a)  Art's Bakery, 4380 West Ridge Road, Erie, PA; three separate
recommendations of the
Truss Plate Institute GIB-91 Summary Sheet were not followed when erecting
roof trusses:
1)  There was no bottom lateral and/or diagonal bracing.
2)  There was inadequate diagonal bracing on the top chord.
3)  The bracing that was in place was not overlapped at least two feet.
Among other methods, one feasible method to correct the hazard is to
follow the Truss Plate Institute HIB-91
Summary Sheet or whatever information on truss erection is sent by the
manufacturer of the trusses when they
arrive on the jobsite.
