Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were potentially exposed to burns from a fire/explosion due to leaking natural gas: (a) Main Building, Shipping/Receiving Area; a natural gas leak, located in the main pipe coming into the building, was brought to the attention of management. The Fire Department was not immediately notified of the hazardous condition. Among other feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard are to: (1) Follow the guidelines in NFPA 1, (National Fire Protection Association), Section 3-1.1.3 for Reporting Hazardous Conditions. It states: " any person, upon discovering or being apprised of any uncontrolled hazardous gas leak or hazardous material or flammable liquid spill, shall immediately notify the Fire Department.
