Section (5)(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Employees were exposed to a potential crushing hazard while working near the base of the manually operated manlift on the main floor of the north elevator and the electric elevator in the main elevator due to the lack of a guardrail around the base of each manlift. Among other methods, one feasible method to correct this hazard would be to install a guardrail around the base of each manlift. (b) Employees were exposed to a potential fall hazard while operating the manlift in the north elevator due to the damaged and frayed pull rope on the manually operated manlift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install a new rope.ll
