Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
(a) On or about 08/25/98 for employees assisting in the removal of power
poles adjacent
to an energized 7200 volt power distribution line and exposed to the
potential hazard of
electrical shock created by the pole making contact with the energized
overhead
distribution line.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is
to ensure that the ground wire attached to the pole has a 3-foot gap cut
in it approximately 20
feet up from the butt end of the pole during pole removal.
