Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) For employees required to ride the manlift in the flax house and exposed to a potential fall hazard of approximately 25 feet created by the lack of a car enclosure on the manlift. (b) For employees required to ride the manlift in the main house and exposed to a potential fall hazard of approximately 25 feet created by the lack of a car enclosure on the manlift. Abatement Note: One feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard, among others, would be to install a car enclosure around the base of the manlift. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement Certification Letter").tion

(b) For employees working in the main house, on the main work floor, and exposed to a potential crushing hazard created by the lack of guardrails or some other type of barrier around the manlift area. Abatement Note: One feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard, among others, would be to install guardrails or some other type of barrier around the base of the manlift.
