Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a) Employees were exposed to a potential hazard while working near the base of the manually operated manlift in the north unit due to the lack of guardrails around the base of the manlift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install guardrails around the base of the manlift. (b) Employees were exposed to a potential fall hazard while operating the manually operated manlift due to the lack of a car enclosure. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install a standard guardrail system on the manlift car.ift

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a) Employees were exposed to a potential fall hazard while working on top of covered hoppers due to the lack of personal protective equipment. One feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard, among other methods, would be to provide personal protective equipment (safety belts and lanyards or an equivalent means of protection).
