General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment or a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being burned by hot cooking oil during the deep fryer cleaning operation. At the establishment, in the deli area, employee(s) cleaning the deep fryer did not pump the oil out of the fryer, nor was the hot oil allowed to cool before the cleaning process. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to allow the hot oil to cool prior to cleaning the deep fryer. CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM
