Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were
likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were working in a
self propelled
extensible boom aerial lift and were not utilizing an appropriate fall
arrest system:
Along the south wall of the building located at 827 N. Lake, Aurora, IL,
employees were
working in an extensible boom aerial lift approximately 27 feet above the
ground and
were not using fall protection as specified in ANSI A92.5-1980 Section
13.2.6 (for
Boom-Supported Elevating Work Platforms) as well as in the Operator's
Manual.
A feasible method of abatement would be to insure that employees wear
appropriate fall
protection as required.
Among feasible means of abatement would be to comply with the American
National
Standards Institute, ANSI A92.5-1992 Standard for Boom-supported Elevating
Work
Platforms:
a)have employees wear fall arrest anytime that they are in the aerial
lift, and
b)provide employees with training and understanding in fall protection and
the
use
of fall protection equipment.
NO CERTIFICATION OR DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM.
