Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling from the forks of a Nations Rent Rough Terrain Fork Truck: (a) Location - Building 1709, Hanscom Air Force Base, Bedford, MA: On 11/29/00, an employee raised on the forks of a Nations Rent Rough Terrain Fork Truck, was exposed to the hazard of falling 13 feet. Among others, methods to correct this hazard include: 1. When lifting personnel with a fork truck, utilize a lifting platform that meets the requirement set forth in ANSI/ASME B5616-1987. 2. Train all employees on the hazards of falling from improper elevating methods and the proper application and use of safety platforms.
