Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which
were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were
exposed to hazards of fire:
(a)  Employees were exposed to burn injuries and illnesses
resulting from exposure to organic and inorganic hazardous
chemicals produced as pyrolisis products when performing tasks
such as salvage work which is not directly related to the repair
of the fire protection features were allowed to occupy the
storage facility while the alarm system was not functional.
Among other methods, one feasible method to abate this hazard
would include:
1.  Limiting access to and occupancy of the storage facility
to employees performing repairs to damaged fire protection
features until such time as all required features were rendered
operable and suitable to protect employee's safety and health
in accordance with NFPA 101, Section 1-6.3.
