Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or
serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a
fall
hazard:
(a)  A fall hazard that occurred on June 18, 1993, when an employee
was observed standing on the load backrest of the load lifting
carriage of a JBC fork lift with telescoping boom located on the
south
side of the building 12 feet above the ground without the use of
fall
protection.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to provide a safety platform secured to the
lifting carriage/fork with standard guardrails including a safety
belt
and lanyard.
