Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to associated to falling loads:
Employees working in the Assembly area were exposed to hazards associated
to falling loads
in that, the following hoist and attachments were not labeled for rated
lifting capacities:
a)The underhung monorail hoist system did not have the maximum rated load
capacity marked on the hoist.
b)The below-the-hook attachment developed and built in house was not load
rated
or load tested and was not marked with the load rating.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement to correct this
hazard is to (a) apply
labels to the hoist mechanisms and to consistently label the supporting
structures
so that the
ratings are consistent.  ANSI/ASME B30.11-1998 "Monorails and Underhung
Cranes", Sections
11-1, 11-2 and 11-3. and (b) provide the rated load on any custom made
lifting device.  2.
Design the lifting device to withstand the forces imposed by its rated
load with minimum design
factor of 3.  3. Provide initial, frequent and periodic inspections of the
lifting devices.  4.
Ensure that initial proof testing of 125of the rated load was conducted.
ANSI/ASME B30.20-
1993, "Below- the-Hook Lifting Devices".
Instance a) 29 CFR 1910.19(c)(1) abatement of the above violation was
verified at the time
of inspection, no certification is required.
Instance b) 29 CFR 1903.19(d)(1) requires certification and documentation
that the
abatement of the above violation is complete.
