a) Employees were exposed to the hazards of being struck, crushed or
pinned from the Globe
auto lifts, while working under vehicles on the lift, which were being
operated without a
safety lock, to lock the Globe lift in position when elevated to the 5
foot or 6 foot height.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT
METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS:
(1)    Conduct the recommended inspections of the lift by the manufacturer
to ensure that the
mechanical locking device and all other operating components are in safe
operating
condition.
(2)Follow the requirements of ANSI B153-1-1990 - 4.1.11, Automatic Lift
Institute Publication ALISM 89-1 and NIOSH Publication No. 77-22.
locking device shall hold the lift in the extended position.
(3)    Conduct required maintenance procedure described by the
manufacturer (Globe).
Inspect lift daily, never operate if it malfunctions or if it has broken
or damaged parts.
(4)    Instruct and train employees in the proper use of the
manufacturer's (Globe)
procedures for safe operations of the lift, including the mechanical
locking device.
