Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being caught by moving conveyor belts. a)At old conveyor system: Employee was exposed to being caught by the moving conveyor while standing on top of the conveyor belt trying to dislodge solid wastes from the belt. On or about May 9, 1997. Abatement Note: Among others , one feasible and acceptable method to eliminate or to materially reduce this hazard is to ensure that no person ride or step on top of the conveyor while it is running. Per ANSI/ASME B20.1-1990, sections 5.12.d. and 5.12.j.
