Section 88.4 - Code of Iowa (2001) 88.4: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a)APAC Teleservices, Maquoketa - Emergency lighting was not provided in the facility designated severe weather shelter, which was windowless, below grade level and below the level of exit discharge. This condition exposes employees to hazards, such as entrapment which may cause death or serious physical harm, in case of a power failure during a severe weather emergency. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install an emergency lighting system that complies with the requirements of section 7-9 of the 2000 Edition of NFPA 101 - Life Safety Code. This condition was noted on or about March 27, 2001.
