General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a.) In that employees were potentially exposed to a serious laceration hazard since there were razor sharp flat edges projecting into the aisle from the cut ends of tubular steel which was stored next to the aisle in the tubular steel storage area. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item - use the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET for this purpose. While ultimate responsibility for correcting the hazard rests with the employer, given his superior knowledge of the workplace, several feasible and acceptable methods, among others, to correct this hazard, are as follows: 1)Widen all pedestrian aisleways to at least 3 feet; 2)Mark the aisleways and don't let any sharp objects project into the aisles; 3)Remove the sharp projections from the tubular steel before storing them.
