Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Basement - The air operated crimper did not have a guard over the foot pedal to prevent accidental activation of the machine. Observed 9/18/92 b) South Center Basement - The custom built air operated hole puncher did not have a guard over the foot pedal to prevent accidental activation of the machine. Observed 9/18/92 c) Basement/South Wall - Chicago Rivet Machine # 2 did not have a guard over the foot pedal to prevent activation of the machine. Observed 9/18/92 d) Basement/Sout Wall - Chicago Rivet Machine # 1 did not have a guard over the foot pedal to prevent accidental activation of the machine. Observed 9/18/92 e) Basement - The custom made bender did not have a guard over the foot pedal to prevent accidental activation of the machine. Observed 9/18/92 f) Basement - The air operated bender did not have a guard over the food pedal to prevent accidental activationof the machine. Observed 9/18/92 NOTE: One feasilbe method of abating this hazard would be to install a guard over the foot pedal.
