Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling: JOBSITE: 2 X 4 FOOT WOODEN TRUSS WORK USED TO SUPPORT A ROOF, WAS IMPROPERLY BRACED. SHORT PIECES OF 1 X 3 FOOT BOARDS WERE USED AS PERMANENT BRACING INSTEAD OF THE PROPER METHOD OF BRACING, PERPENDICULAR TO THE TRUSSES. THERE WERE NO DIAGONAL BRACES BETWEEN THE TRUSSES. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD IS TO INSTALL ADEQUATE TEMPORARY LATERAL AND DIAGONAL BRACING DURING PLACEMENT OF THE TRUSSES. THIS BRACING SHOULD BE DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TRUSS PLATE INSTITUTE "HIB-91 SUMMARY SHEET", RECOMMENDATIONS FOR HANDLING AND INSTALLING WOOD TRUSSES.
