Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were causing or
likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that
employees were exposed to multiple
injuries from crossing over moving conveyor belts and working on moving
rollers:
(a)Freezer - Employee(s) dislodging jammed product on the upper discharge
area were
exposed to injuries from stepping over the moving conveyor belt leading to
the palletizing
area and working on the moving rollers which transport packages to the
conveyor.
Employee(s) also worked on the conveyor/roller system when it was turned
off, but there
was nothing to prevent the system from being activated and nor was there a
method to
alert employee(s) of the impending start-up.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to widen
the conveyor to prevent or reduce the number of jams and/or install a
catwalk to allow employees to
unjam products by using rakes to reach packages without working on the
moving rollers or conveyor,
and to ensure the conveyor system is turned off and locked out in the
future if employees would have to
work on top of the conveyor/roller system.r/roller
