Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the physical and health hazards of explosion resulting from the use of R22 and compressed air. (a)York International Corporation - The employer used chlorodifluoromethane (R22) and compressed air to leak test refrigeration units at about 450 psig. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO UTILIZE R22 AND NITROGEN FOR THE TEST AS RECOMMENDED BY THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF HEATING, REFRIGERATING AND AIR-CONDITIONING ENGINEERS, INC. GUIDELINES.
