Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing and broken bones from the suspended load: (a)Assembly Area - Next to aisleway there was a jib crane with a two (2) ton electric Coffing hoist attached to it. The hoist had a three hundred (300) pound housing on the hook suspended thirty six (36) inches above the floor area without anyone being at the operators controls. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO TRAIN THE EMPLOYEES TO LOWER THE LOAD WHEN THEY LEAVE THE CONTROLS.
