General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a crushing hazard: (a) Wagner Equipment; Welding shop: On or before 03/08/95 employees were exposed to the hazard of crushing injuries and death, in that vehicle support stands were used to elevate heavy equipment while employees worked underneath. The stands supporting capacity was not determined, proof tested and marked on the stand by casting imprint, metal stamp, or use of durable materials and attachment methods as referenced in ASME PALD - 1993. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is, proof test the stands at 150of rated capacity as referenced in ASME PALD-1993 section 4.1.2, and mark rated capacity by casting imprint, stamp, or use durable materials as referenced in ASME PALD-1993, Section 1.1 and Section 1.2.
