Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to falls while working off elevated forks of a
Rough Terrain
Forklift.
a) The Wexford, 1515 W. 28th Street, Loveland, CO.: On or about 2/22/96,
employees were observed cutting rafter tails while standing on a bundle of
TIG
joists that were elevated approximately 18' of the ground by way of a
Gradall
material handler.
A feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be
to adopt section
5.15.1 paragraphs b, e, j, l, and r,  titled "Elevating Personnel" found
in the ASME/ANSI
B56.6-1987 Safety Standard for Rough Terrain Forklift Trucks.
