Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:
The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment
which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely
to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that
employees were exposed to: loads dropping from a shock load being
placed on one crane from the other crane on the same runway
striking it, and no shock absorbing bumpers on either crane to
prevent this from occurring:
(a)Carrier Department - Build Cell Station number 4 had two
under hung, single bridge girder, the bridge girders were
extended 3 and 1/2 feet to the west side and no
engineering study was preformed to determine the
stability of the addition to the cranes.
ABATEMENT NOTE:
"AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD
TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO PERFORM A ENGINEERING STUDY ON THE
EXTENSION OF THE BRIDGE GIRDERS."

them.

TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO INSTALL BRIDGE BUMPERS BETWEEN THE TWO
CRANES."
